Our Community Service
The Seacoast Newcomers Club selects a worthwhile, local, non-profit organization each year to support with a five-dollar contribution from each member’s dues. We also conduct fundraisers and wish list contributions throughout the year. This is a wonderful tradition of giving back to our communities that was established as part of our by-laws.
This year our board selected Community Toolbox as our designated charity. Based in Portsmouth, NH, Community Toolbox operates under the premise that everyone deserves a safe and healthy home. The charity enlists skilled volunteers to provide critical home repairs for homeowners with limited means. The repairs focus on providing the basic dignities of safety, health and accessibility.
Beneficiaries of the program include senior citizens, veterans, single parents and people with disabilities—all people who have proudly held on to their homes and now need help to remain independent. Examples of the work are wheelchair ramps, fixing plumbing, stairs and railings, and weatherization.
Community Toolbox is funded entirely by donations and grants. Our financial support will go a long way toward assisting them in their goal of 70 repair projects in 2017 and to grow the number of people they can help stay in their homes in the coming year.
